What is the difference between life coaching and counseling?

Life coaches and counselors both work to help people to live better and more fulfilled lives. However, the techniques and viewpoints of a therapist and coach differ. Life coaches help clients look at current issues with an eye toward forward movement, problem solving, and support. Counseling and therapy tend to go deeper into the past to resolve old issues that are holding the client back. Linda thinks like a therapist, with an eye on past experiences and problems. However, as a Life Coach, she helps people move forward by trying new ways to communicate, reflect, and interact with others in their lives.

EXECUTIVE COACHING involves talking through work-related issues with an emphasis on communication skills, professional conduct, and conflict resolution. Linda’s executive coaching uses CliftonStrengths Assessment and Cascade Charts to enhance self-awareness, build on strength competencies, and promote understanding between coworkers and teams.  Linda offers individual and team CliftonStrengths sessions. Team sessions often follow individual coaching calls; this allows individuals to use their own strengths to understand how they relate to the strengths of others on their team. Linda is also trained in the “Immunity to Change” model to help clients become “unstuck” with issues they’re facing.

LIFE COACHING involves talking through personal or relational issues in order to enhance self-awareness, offer support, and provide constructive feedback. This process leads clients to develop better problem-solving skills; strategic thinking; and move toward realizing their goals and desires. Linda uses the CliftonStrengths Assessment in Life Coaching.
